The Global Slavery Index 2016

18:01

Criticism to the methodology and design of the modern slavery index is widespread. I am not an ardent supporter of the same.

However, despite this there is no denying the fact that slavery/human trafficking is increasing across the world even if various country and regional estimates are analysed in conjunction and distinctly from each other, not forgetting the huge numbers left unaccounted for owing to the clandestine nature of the crime and variations in reporting methodologies.

This year' index reveals India as the most slave prone country across the world.

What are we missing then?
